VOISCOPE

Typical Number in Hospital: 1 Cost Bands: 4 References:

This is an instrument based on the laryngograph employing surface-mounted electrodes adjacent to the glottis and providing an electrical analogue of the movement of the larynx. The voiscope provides a visual display of the speech fundamental frequency information on an oscilloscope screen and this can be used to assist the patient to correct and reinforce voice, rhythm and intonation patterns. Gross larynx movement may also be detected to observe and record the slow laryngeal adjustments which precede and accompany phonation. The device may be used in the speech therapy department under supervision, or by the patient alone using programmed material.
