VISUAL DISPLAY UNIT

Typical Number in Hospital: 20 Cost Bands: References:

Modern computers are usually accessed through a visual display unit (VDU) which contains a television-type cathode ray tube and drive electronics, a key board and often enough internal memory to store a full screen of information. They are sometimes called computer terminals although this implies additional abilities such as screen editing, limited storage of information and encoding of information for transmission and reception. They are found in many situations throughout the hospital from patient records departments where they may be linked to a central management computer, or to pathology laboratories where they may be linked to a scientific computer.
