ULTRASONIC CLEANING BATH

Typical Number in Hospital: 3 Cost Bands: 3 References:

The washing action of detergent or a solvent can be enhanced by the application of ultrasonic waves. Instruments or small components can be cleaned very thoroughly by immersing them in a steel bath (e.g. 25 cm by 15 cm surface area) attached to a high power ultrasonic transducer operating at (say) 50 kHz. This causes rapid shaking of the objects in the bath. The apparatus consists of the bath itself, the transducer (which may be magnetostrictive or piezoelectric) and a high-power oscillator to drive the transducer. These are useful for removing oil or grease, or cleaning blood from intricate instruments.
