TRANSIENT RECORDER

Typical Number in Hospital: 1 Cost Bands: 4 References: 3

This is a device for slowing down fast signals so they can be analysed. The signal is digitized at very high speed and stored in a buffer memory (computer-type memory). When the memory is full it can be read back at a much slower speed for analysis and display. Very rapid signals such as EEG evoked responses require this type of recorder. Transient recorders require a trigger signal to start or stop the memory. This trigger may be some stimulus such as a light flash, an audible click or an electrical stimulation.
