This is a relatively simple device used for stirring the contents of small flasks to ensure good mixing during slow chemical reactions. The usual form of the device is a small box on which the flask is placed. Inside the box is a motor rotating a small magnet just beneath the top surface of the box. Another small magnet encapsulated in a plastic coating is dropped into the flask and this rotates in sympathy with the magnet rotating beneath. This causes continual stirring of the contents of the flask.
