This is an audio-spectrum analyser which presents a display on a cathode ray tube showing time in the X-direction, frequency in the Y-direction and amplitude proportional to the density (brightness) of the picture. As the CRT spot moves in the Y- direction the centre frequency of the analysing band pass filter increases. Such devices would be used in the speech therapy department to assist in the understanding of abnormal speech patterns. This is also called a spectrograph.
