This is similar to the ophthalmoscope, and is used to examine the interior of the eye under direct observation. The aim is to obtain an index of the refractive qualities of the patient's lens system. It generates and optically processes a narrow high- intensity rotatable light beam which passes through the subject's lenses in order to give a full, sharp, clear reflex image without any peephole shadow.
