These radiate long wavelength infrared rays to produce superficial heating either in the treatment of inflammation (physiotherapy department) or as a substitute for an enclosed canopy incubator to keep small babies warm during observation and treatment. The lamps may be incandescent filament lamps with a special glass filter to reduce visible and ultraviolet radiation or they may be non-visible, employing overwound or enclosed heating elements of the type used in domestic electric heaters.
