Irradiation with ultraviolet light in the UVA part of the spectrum (280-400 nm) is sometimes performed in conjunction with a photo-active drug such as Psoralen as Psoralen ultraviolet A treatment (PUVA). The apparatus for this is a form of tunnel bath employing banks of fluorescent UVA tubes arranged inside a reflector around the patient. Periods of skin treatment may be typically 2 hours at a time and this may be undertaken in the physiotherapy department, or in the skin clinic.
