PULSE MONITOR

Typical Number in Hospital: 30 Cost Bands: 1 References: 2

A simple device to indicate that a peripheral pulse exists and is regular. It may operate from a microphone over a palpable artery, a pressure bulb taped to the skin, or by photoelectric transmission or reflection at the finger tip or ear lobe. A simple monitor would probably be battery operated and contain a detector circuit, and a meter on which the needle kicks in time to the pulse, or a light or bleep is activated on each pulse. They may also include a ratemeter. These devices are mainly used by anaesthetists.
