This mixes two fluids in a fixed ratio, and is found in a haemodialysis machine for mixing a concentrated solution with treated tap water to produce the dialysate. It usually consists of a motorized pump with a double chamber in which the relative volumes of the two chambers can be adjusted to provide the correct mixing proportions.
Proportioning pumps are also used in some laboratory apparatus to achieve exact dilutions of samples of body fluids before passing to an analyser.
