PERITONEAL DIALYSIS CLAMP

Typical Number in Hospital: Cost Bands: References:

Kidney function may be partially replaced by peritoneal dialysis, which involves infusing a special solution (dialysate) into the potential space between the two membranes of the peritoneum (which surrounds most of the abdominal organs). The dialysate remains in the abdomen for a time (e.g. 1 hour) and is then drawn off, and new dialysate infused. It often employs an automatic timing device which clamps the outlet tube while fluid is fed in from a bag or bottle and clamps the inlet line while fluid is drawn off.

The device consists of a set of electrical or electronic timers and motorized gate valves which clamp the tubes at the correct times.
