PASTEURIZER

Typical Number in Hospital: 5 Cost Bands: 2 References: 2

Sterilization of instruments which are damaged by high- temperature sterilization (e.g. by autoclaving) can be effected by heating in water to 70-75[d]C for a minimum of 20 minutes. This procedure kills most infective agents but is only really suitable for items where total sterility is not required. Repeated pasteurization may damage some items or reduce their anti-static properties. A pasteurizer usually takes the form of a small heated water bath.
