Patients with implanted pacemakers are asked to attend a clinic at regular intervals to evaluate the performance of their pacemaker. The procedure may involve ECG and X-ray tests. The electrocardiograms are to establish that pacing currents flow from the correct site in the heart to the second electrode (usually on the pacemaker), or the pacemaker may include circuits to transmit (usually by an inductive link) diagnostic information about its own performance. In this last case a special analyser may be supplied by the makers of the pacemaker to collect and interpret this information.
Such devices would be used in the cardiology department.
