As a substitute for an enclosed canopy incubator to keep small babies warm during observation and treatment an overhead baby warmer may be used. This consists of a cot with a heating device mounted on an arm overhead. The overhead heater may use incandescent filament (infrared) lamps with a special glass filter to reduce visible and ultraviolet radiation or it may deliver non-visible light from overwound or enclosed elements of the types used in domestic electrical heaters.
