OTOSCOPE

Typical Number in Hospital: 50 Cost Bands: 1 References:

Also known as an auriscope, the otoscope is a hand-held battery- powered light source and lens system for looking into the outer ear. Most have a detachable tip (speculum) which comes in a range of sizes. The bulb is usually energized via a rheostat (variable resistance) in order to control its brightness although this facility is normally used only in ophthalmic testing when the lens and speculum are detached and replaced by an ophthalmoscope attachment. Most otoscopes are monocular devices although binocular versions are available.
