ORTHOVOLTAGE X-RAY SET

Typical Number in Hospital: 1 Cost Bands: 6,7 References:

A therapy X-ray set which uses a conventional X-ray tube to emit X-rays in the range of 100-500 keV. These sets will be used with either open or closed-ended applicators. The focal point to skin distance (FSD) is fixed by the length of the applicator. Metal filters are frequently used in the X-ray beam to 'harden' the beam by reducing the emission of the lower energy X-rays. They are used to treat both superficial and other lesions but not those which are deep seated. Orthovoltage X-ray sets are found in radiotherapy departments.
