This measures the rate of air flow in litres/minute in the nose. The patient dons a rubber mask fitted with an electrically heated thermistor bead. The flow of air down the nose cools the bead and an electronic conditioning amplifier converts this into air flow rate. This is useful for objective assessment before, during, and after treatment of the hypernasal patient and may be used in the speech therapy department. Similar devices also exist for use in the intensive care department to monitor the flow through the nose or simply to monitor or record breathing patterns.
