This term has been used to describe an instrument which uses surface electrodes to pick up small signals due to muscle activity and translate them into a sound signal whose intensity is related to the level of activity in the muscle under the electrode. This may be used as an indicator of arousal in response to auditory stimulus to assist the therapist to train the patient. In some ways this is similar to the relaxometer.
