MARSHALL'S INDICATOR

Typical Number in Hospital: Cost Bands: 1 References: 2

In paediatric anaesthesia a breathing circuit without valves (T- piece circuit) is often used because of its low resistance to spontaneous breathing. One problem with this is the absence of a basic breathing indicator as normally provided by the action of the expiratory valve. The Marshall's indicator is a foil flap mounted at the distal limb of the T-piece circuit, which can be seen moving in time with the breathing.
