Mapleson classified breathing circuits used in anaesthesia. The commonest type (the Mapleson A) is known also as the Magill attachment. Other types include variations in the position of the expiratory valve and fresh gas feed, the use of longer breathing tubes, or in the case of the Mapleson E there are no valves (T-piece circuit).
