This is a force transducer used for measuring force or for weighing. It usually consists of a strain gauge transducer measuring the extension of a load element which has a known force/extension relationship. If high-frequency response is required piezoelectric types are used with a small crystal measuring the strain. In this case the electronic apparatus required in conjunction with the load cell is more complex. Other types of strain or displacement transducer may be used as part of the load cell.
