LIGHT BEAM DIAPHRAGM

Typical Number in Hospital: Cost Bands: References: 7

In diagnostic X-ray examination it is important to restrict the radiation to the smallest possible area, and therefore a localizing cone or diaphragm is used. In most X-ray sets there is a lamp and suitable optical mechanisms to allow projection on to the patient of the area to be irradiated. The diaphragm is then adjusted to cover only the area to be examined before the X- ray system is actuated. This mechanism is known as a light beam diaphragm.
