LARYNGOSCOPE

Typical Number in Hospital: 50 Cost Bands: 1 References: 2

This is a hand-held lever and light used for depressing the tongue and viewing prior to insertion of an artificial airway. The commonest type is the Mackintosh curved folding airway. There are also Magill laryngoscopes. A range of sizes is available, and the batteries are normally in the handle. The handle can be separated from the 'blade' for cleaning and sterilizing.
