These are lung ventilators driven by a continuous flow of gases or air, usually at a pressure of 45 to 60 psi. Only a part of the driving gas is delivered to the patient and other gases may be added by means of an injector. They are most commonly used for intensive care rather than anaesthesia. Examples are the Bird ventilators and the Cyclator.
