INJECTOR SUCTION UNIT

Typical Number in Hospital: 300 Cost Bands: 1 References: 2

Suction for aspiration of body fluids may be provided from a compressed gas supply (pipeline or cylinder) by the use of an injector or venturi. Depending on the design, it may provide high suction or high displacement. When driven from an oxygen cylinder they are wasteful of oxygen but have the advantage of portability. Such units are sometimes found in wards in hospitals and consist of the injector unit, which may plug into the piped gas supply, a reservoir bottle for the fluids and a suction catheter with suction nozzle. They are useful for short term use.
