HYPERBARIC THERAPY APPARATUS

Typical Number in Hospital: Cost Bands: References: 4

For treating respiratory insufficiency due to inadequate ventilation or circulatory problems, the patient may be totally enclosed in a pressure chamber in which the oxygen tension may be raised to provide useful amounts of oxygen in the blood through the respiratory system and through the skin. Larger units may allow the therapist to work in the chamber at the same time.

Hyperbaric chambers are also used in the re-acclimatization of deep-sea divers to atmospheric pressure.
