In the physiotherapy department heat treatment is applied by various methods, one of which is a simple moist pack containing a gel. The packs are placed in a heated bath where they absorb up to ten times their weight of water, and are then taken out and applied to the skin under towels.
The hot pack heater is a simple thermostatically controlled water bath with special racking for holding the hot packs.
