An instrument for estimating the proportion of carbon dioxide in expired gases. A small sample of the gases is drawn into a calibrated burette and is then exposed to a solution of potassium hydroxide. The reduction of gas volume indicates the quantity of carbon dioxide absorbed by the potassium hydroxide. Such apparatus is used for calibration of electronic carbon dioxide monitors.
