A type of display or paper recorder utilizing varying intensity to indicate a third parameter. This is best known in medical equipment in grey scale display of ultrasonic images in which the brightness is used to indicate the intensity of the echo. Grey scale displays on CRTs can be achieved using a conventional CRT for real-time scanning or using scan converters with TV-type displays. Fibre-optic recorders can also achieve grey scale printing of such images on photographic paper.
