Stomach washout may be achieved by the simple procedure of passing a tube into the stomach and pouring in fluid through a funnel, and then lowering the tube to siphon out the contents. Automated versions exist which provide a washing cycle, and such devices may also be adapted for investigation purposes in which samples of stomach contents are removed at intervals into vials for examination. Such devices would contain a small suction pump, timer, and the necessary tubes, filters, and jars.
