vaporizers for volatile anaesthetic agents are normally temperature compensated and calibrated for a single agent. If the vaporizer is filled with the wrong agent the calibration will be incorrect, perhaps with lethal consequences. As an attempt to limit the possibility of the use of incorrect agents the Fraser Sweatman pin safety system provides connectors between the filling bottles and the vaporizers which cannot be interchanged. The filling bottles have a screw thread which can only be mated with the correct filling nozzle.
