FRAME-FREEZE MODULE

Typical Number in Hospital: Cost Bands: References: 1

This is a device to retain a single still image from a moving sequence. Most video recorders can provide this facility though the results are not always satisfactory.

Real-time ultrasonic scanners usually include a frame-freeze facility although this is usually achieved with a digital scan converter in which each frame of the moving image is stored in a computer-type memory. The contents of the memory are being read on to the display screen at a high rate and the image can be frozen at any time by arresting the flow of new information to the memory. The facility is used during real-time scanning for examination or recording. Since the image is stored in a computer memory it is also possible to further operate on the image to improve or change the contrast ratio, to improve the sharpness of the image, or to make calculations of distance, circumference, or area to establish the size of the organs or areas of interest.
