A pen recorder using broad paper usually with a potentiometric recording mechanism is used for recording slow variables (typically up to 1 Hz) such as those generated by analytical equipment in the pathology laboratory. Multichannel versions are available but they usually have a small error between the channels since the pens must not interfere with each other as they cross over.
