This is a radio transmitter operating from inside the body. The best known example is the radio pill which is a small transmitter which can be swallowed to record electrical, pressure or pH changes within the gut. Similar devices can be introduced into the bladder to record pressure changes. They are usually epoxy encapsulated and contain a simple Hartley oscillator circuit operating at low frequency (e.g. 0.5 MHz) which is detected outside the body with a loop aerial. More complex devices are possible which may be implanted but these are not used clinically.
