ELECTRONARCOSIS APPARATUS

Typical Number in Hospital: Cost Bands: 2 References: 4

This term is used to describe any phenomenon induced as a result of the passage of electric currents through the head and may extend from electrosleep employing very low currents (e.g. 500 [u]A average) to electro-convulsive therapy employing currents of 1 A or more for a fraction of a second.

Except for electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) such techniques are not used routinely in hospitals. The generators for electronarcosis are pulse generators with variable pulse rate, pulse width, and output voltage or current.
