ELECTROCOCHLEOGRAPH

Typical Number in Hospital: Cost Bands: References: 3

The apparatus on which one would record the electrocochleograph (ECochG) would most likely be an electric response audiometer consisting of a calibrated click or tone generator and earpiece, and an amplifier and signal averager connected to a needle electrode which is passed (usually under general or local anaesthetic) through the eardrum so that its tip lies on the promontory of the cochlea. There is an electrical response to each click which is dependent on the amplitude of the sound stimulus. Such apparatus is usually found in the audiology department.
