This is a general term for a force or torque meter but is most commonly encountered in medical equipment as a hand dynamometer in the physiotherapy department or physiology research laboratory for exercising the hand and measuring the grip. It may be a simple spring device with a force-indicating pointer, or it may have an electronic sensor and display.
