The main object of a draw-over apparatus is to enable a volatile anaesthetic agent to be vaporized in air with complete independence from supplies of nitrous oxide and oxygen. Air is drawn through a vaporizer by the patient's breathing effort. These devices may include simple ether vaporizers such as the Schimmelbusch mask, or low-resistance vaporizers such as the AE, Blease universal, EMO ether vaporizer, etc. They are often used in conjunction with demand flow anaesthesia or analgesia apparatus such as the Walton 5, McKesson, Lucy Baldwyn and Quantiflex RA system.
