DISCRETE SAMPLE ANALYSER

Typical Number in Hospital: 1 Cost Bands: 7,8 References: 9

This is a type of automated chemical analyser used in the clinical chemical laboratory for the estimation of concentrations of various ions, molecules and enzymes in samples of body fluids. The discrete analyser may be distinguished from continuous flow analysers and from centrifugal analysers in that the particular tests and chemical procedures required are programmed for each sample. In general the diluted sample undergoes all the reactions required in the same cuvette which is eventually fed to the photometer for the final analysis. Discrete sample analysers would be difficult to operate without computers. Their main advantage is economy of reagents since only the tests which have been requested need be performed.
