This is a device or mechanism for removing air from liquids, and is found in haemodialysis machines.
Dialysing fluid passes through an artificial kidney at a lower pressure than the blood on the other side of the membrane, especially if water is to be removed from the patient by ultrafiltration. The low pressure of the dialysing fluid causes release of dissolved air which may pass through the dialyser into the blood. The de-aerator removes the air before the fluid reaches the dialyser, and it does this by lowering the pressure and/or raising the temperature in the chamber before the dialyser.
