The rhythm of speech can be affected by amplifying the sound of one's own voice, and delaying its presentation. Delayed auditory feedback machines exist which present the subject's own voice via headphones, and controls on the unit allow variation in the amplitude and time delay. The technique is used in the speech therapy department for the treatment of stammering and speech- rhythm disorders.
