C-SCANNER (ULTRASONIC)

Typical Number in Hospital: Cost Bands: 6 References: 1

This is an ultrasonic scanning device which builds an image of a plane in the tissue which is perpendicular to the ultrasonic beam. This was originally done by time gating the returning echoes to correspond only to the chosen depth into the tissue. However, modern computerized tomography makes reconstruction of any plane of the tissue feasible.

C-scanning, though theoretically useful, has not gained wide acceptance in clinical ultrasound practice.
