CARBON MONOXIDE ANALYSER

Typical Number in Hospital: 1 Cost Bands: 4 References: 3

This is an infrared gas analyser similar to that used for carbon dioxide estimations but responding to absorption at a different characteristic wavelength. They are used in transfer factor analysis to determine the rate of transfer of oxygen from the air to the blood. The determination cannot be achieved directly with oxygen since there is simultaneous transfer to and from the blood.

Carbon monoxide is used in small concentrations since it is readily absorbed and not immediately released. Such devices are used in the lung function laboratory.
