BREATHING TUBE/HOSE

Typical Number in Hospital: 500 Cost Bands: 1 References: 2

This is the 'elephant tube' used to connect between components of the breathing circuit on anaesthetic apparatus. Its usual form is black antistatic corrugated tube with push fit/twist or lockable terminations (one male and one female) to fit other components of the breathing circuit. They need to be wide bore to present minimal resistance to breathing and the corrugations prevent kinking. The tubing sections usually hang down between the facepiece and absorber, etc. and this is said to reduce infection of the apparatus by trapping moisture at the bottom of the drape.
