Where a pin-indexed valve block on a medical gas cylinder is connected to a machine (e.g. anaesthetic machine valve yoke) the block is pressed on to a washer of non-combustible material to form the high-pressure seal between the two. Before medical gas cylinders are fitted it is important that the state of this seal be examined and a replacement fitted if there are signs of damage. Bodok (sometimes called a Dowty seal) is really a proprietary name but it is generally applied to these types of washer.
