This is an older type of anaesthetic machine on which gas cylinders are mounted in metal baskets and the pressure regulators are attached directly on to the cylinders. On modern machines the cylinders are each mounted on a yoke with a pin- index system to prevent connection of the wrong type of cylinder (i.e. the wrong gas).
