BABYWARMER

Typical Number in Hospital: 5 Cost Bands: 3 References: 4,6

Small babies cannot control the temperature of their own bodies very well. Premature babies are mostly nursed in incubators where the temperature of their environment can be closely controlled, and the temperature of the infant can also be monitored by a thermistor. Those at less thermal risk and those undergoing examination or treatment may be transferred to a babywarmer, which is a special cot having a large low-temperature radiant heater mounted above it. The energy radiated by the element may be controlled from a thermistor on the skin of the infant.
